Clergy are the backbone of the church. It isn't an easy job. That's why The Devoted Life offers support for our clergy to help them remain strong as they minister in the Church. Often pastors feel as though they have no one to which to turn in times of crisis. Overwhelmed by the work of the pastorate and the demands of home, they sometimes feel themselves overly anxious or depressed. In these times, it can become a challenge to hold to the very disciplines that one cherishes.
I will never forget the day a colleague came to me and said, "Do you have time to pray?" I assumed that I was being asked to stop what I was doing to join in a time of prayer. "No, I mean do you find that you have time in your life for your personal prayer life." Here was a leader of the church sharing that often while leading others to deeper spiritual awareness stating that it was difficult to find the time of connection with God in the pastor's own life.
The Devoted Life is that safe place for pastors. A place to share, confess, grow, discern and be encouraged to maintain the disciplines of the faith less they become only, as Barbara Brown Taylor stated, "professional holy people."
